Join the class and enjoy a day of relaxation that you can take home with you!
Needlework has been recognised as an effective way to reduce stress since back during World War I when soldiers stitched to aid their recuperation. The focus on one action and the flow of needlework calms the mind and reduces stress. In addition, there is a sense of achievement when a piece is completed which can boost mental health and improve our wellbeing.
With this information in mind, the Royal School of Needlework has launched its first dedicated Mindfulness Class. Introducing a calming design, inspired by the Tree of Life, and using tranquil coloured threads and music to stitch to, students will enjoy a relaxing day of Kantha Embroidery. Students will be using the traditional Running Stitch, employed in Kantha, as the motion of the repetitive movements employed in working this stitch can be meditative and soothing. They also allow plenty of scope for individual expression.
And to make sure your day of calmness doesn’t end, your class kit will include everything you need to make a lavender bag with your finished design. Just pop it under your pillow to help have a restful night’s sleep.
The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
This class will run from 10am-4pm at Lancaster Castle LA1 1YJ
