About Applique

Literally meaning to “put on” or “apply”, applique is a method of applying fabrics one on top of another to create images. Not to be confused with patchwork, it is worked by building up layers of fabric. Allowing the combination of colour, texture and pattern appliqué is usually one of the speedier methods of embellishment.

Appliqued items were found in Tutankhamun’s funeral wardrobe, and it has remained popular ever since.
