Tassel Making Workshop

Enjoy a day of tassel making, where you will create a colourful, wooden topped tassel from pure wool and cotton. Learn how to use a cord winder to create skirted, ruffed tassel. 

Originally Western tassels were a series of windings around a string, later wooden moulds were used to achieve the desired shape. The French dominated the tassel market, apprentices took seven years to become a passementier. Use your tassel as a decorative ornament or even to finish off an interior furnishing.

The workshop lasts from 10am to 4pm, we will be learning to craft a tassel from its components whilst also learning a little more about the rich heritage of tassel making. 

All levels of stitchers are welcome from beginners to experts - come and try your hand at passementerie, identified by the Heritage Crafts Association as an endangered craft.

Everything required to create your unique tassel will be provided in your included kit. Coffee or tea and delicious cakes from Atkinson's fabulous cafe just across the courtyard is included.

The workshop takes place in my lovely studio in Lancaster Castle which is easy to get to, by train, bus or car, with the station only 5 minutes away and plenty of pay and display spaces outside the castle.

There is a maximum of eight students to ensure everyone gets personal support.
